New Developments 2019
I’m Eli, the new Community Development Officer at our centre – I’ve been here for 3 months.
2019 has lots of exciting new developments!
The Rotary Club in Haydock kindly donated a cheque for £250 to our Dementia Friendly group.
Excitingly we got news from Wigan Council that we got a £1615 grant for a Shared Reading programme for little ones and their parents to enjoy books, have a sing along, dress up, bake & start their lifelong love of literature with the help of Julie, our Level 6 Early Years Practitioner. Details to be announced.
On the 22nd January we had a meeting with Ashton job seekers to ask how best to help them. With a dedicated computer suite for job searches, job seekers can pop in and update their CVs in a warm and friendly environment.
Job seekers told us they needed help with digital skills, creating a CV, more knowledge on using spreadsheets, confidence building and interview skills.
With this in mind, we will be looking into grant funding and also help from Wigan Council via the Lloyds Academy who do training in digital skills.
Today, 29th January, we had a volunteer morning to see how best volunteers can help us. It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm of our volunteers wanting to help job seekers with digital skills and befriend people in the Dementia Friendly group and in the new Photowalks & Wellbeing group.
On the 7th February the Photowalks & Wellbeing group will be starting. The aim of this group is to learn new skills in Photography, reduce social isolation by making new connections and plan walks for the warmer weather.
Two Funeralcare Co-ops (Ashton-in Makerfield and Leigh) and two Co-op shops (Lowton and Culcheth) are kindly supporting us with donations from their members for our Photowalks Group.
Cindy Kelly, a Co-op Member Pioneer held a meeting on the 14th January in Culcheth inviting us and other causes to pool information and share best practice on volunteers and running of groups.
We still need volunteers for our Tea Dance and Over 65s group.
If any of the groups interest you, or you want more information on our wider programme of activities please get in touch with Eli on 01942 274 684 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
