What is a Community Fridge?

A Community Fridge is a public refrigerator where individuals and businesses can donate surplus food, and anyone who needs it can take it. It operates on a simple principle: “Take what you need, give what you can.” By doing so, we aim to reduce food waste while supporting those in our community who are facing food insecurity.

Why a Community Fridge?

  • Reduce Food Waste: Every year, tons of perfectly good food are thrown away. Our Community Fridge helps divert this food from landfills to dinner tables.
  • Support Our Community: We provide a free and accessible source of food to those in need, promoting a spirit of sharing and caring.
  • Promote Healthy Eating: By offering fresh produce and nutritious food options, we encourage healthier eating habits within the community.
  • Foster Community Spirit: Our fridge is a place for community engagement, bringing people together to support each other in times of need.

How It Works

  1. Donations: Local businesses, farmers, and community members can donate surplus food that is still good to eat but might otherwise go to waste.
  2. Access: The fridge is accessible to everyone in the community, 7 days a week. No questions asked, just take what you need.
  3. Volunteer: Our initiative thrives on the generosity of volunteers who help maintain the fridge, ensuring it is clean and stocked.
