“I am the project coordinator of the Kids on the move Project, this project works with children between the ages of 2-5. The Kids On The Move project looks to increase their agility, balance and coordination through practical sessions. The session will also incorporate activities which will help enhance the childrens personal, social and emotional development, communication and language. Another one of our targets is to upskill the settings staff too. We do this be creating simple and effective sessions that the staff can learn from and we also give the nursery setting a resources bag at the end of the term with a coaching booklet with all my sessions I have created.
We do this to hope the staff can continue on the projects hard work and try impact as any children as possible. Myself would work with the nursery class on the same day for one hour a week for the full school term (usually 12/13 weeks).
All of our sessions are based on the national curriculum, which they would start when they begin primary school.
All I have done is tailored them to the needs of nursery children. We also work around the EYFS framework and we regularly chat with yourself and other staff about the needs of the children and try and incorporate it into our sessions.
Our main aim is to get the children more school ready. From my experience of working in schools for the past 10 years its clear to see that when it comes to any sort of PE, nurserys seem to get forgotten about. Which is strange because at that age it is the best time to get them involved in sport. With the schools we have worked with this year, they have seen a huge impact in the kids already and seen a big difference from the kids from this year and last year”
